The Island of Ios in the Cyclades, Greece

The encaustic residency is located on the island of IOS, one of the Cyclades, neighbored by Santorini to the South, Naxos to the West, Paros to the North.  Artists and creatives have individual living and work spaces in their apartments located in Mylopotas Bay, a popular beach destination in the summer.  Additionally there are outside work areas located in covered stone sheep sheds and in the landscaped garden outside the property in Mylopotas. For those those interested in working in plein aire or in sculpture, there is a terraced platform with an outside studio equipped with benches and counters on a hill facing Aghia Theodoti Bay, a small hamlet in the northeast of the island home to another pristine beach.   The Cyclades are a photographers and naturalists dream as literally any walking path and road provides vistas of unmatched majesty especially during the numinous hours of sunrise and sunset.

It runs with its own solar-powered generator allowing for heat guns, griddles, and power tools to be set up.  As this part of the island faces north, it is subject to heavy winds.  Caution is in order.  On days without winds, it is an ideal spot to paint in plein aire or for creating sculpture.
