Eligibility
The encaustic residency under the guidance of Atelier Eirene is available to any artist, both emerging and established, even those with a rudimentary knowledge of the technique. We encourage artists from all over the world curious about expanding their practice in this ancient/modern medium on the Cycladic island of IOS. While the residency is focused on wax techniques including encaustic photography and encaustic sculpture, visual artist working in other mediums especially watercolor, printmaking, ceramics, acrylics and oils can also be accommodated.
Additionally, other creatives can be hosted including writers/poets, filmmakers, sculptors esp in stone, photographers, book makers, researchers, scholars, scientists, etc.
Because of the visually breathtaking scenery of the native landscape and the atmospheric effects of the Cycladic sun, the residency would be especially worthwhile for plein aire landscape artists. As the island hosts a beautiful amphitheater, the Odyseas Elytis Theater, that can seat up to 1,100 spectators, playwrights, musical performers, dancers and those interested in ancient dramaturgic and stagecraft would be welcome to create new work.
APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED YEAR-ROUND on a ROLLING BASIS for Fall (September -November) and Spring (March-May) residency periods.
